젊은 사업가 신혼부부는 부천 송내에 위치한 2009년 완공된 148m² 규모의 고층 아파트를 첫 보금자리로 선택했다. 이 공간은 탁 트인 산 전망과 풍부한 채광이 특징으로, 신혼부부가 첫 집으로 선택한 가장 큰 이유였다.

부부가 시간이 흐르며 공간을 점차 자신들의 색으로 채워 나갈 수 있도록, 본 프로젝트는 최소한의 색감과 정제된 디자인을 바탕으로 간결하면서도 내실이 탄탄한 주거 공간을 목표로 하였다.

첫 번째 디자인 컨셉은 '간결함'이었다. 따뜻하고 차분한 공간을 조성하기 위해 뉴트럴 계열의 화이트 컬러를 메인 톤으로 설정하고, 이에 조화로운 건축 마감재를 선정하여 컬러와 소재 자체의 본연의 아름다움을 강조하였다. 더불어, 공간에 맞춰 철저하게 계산된 조명을 배치하여 깊이 있고 풍부한 공간감을 연출하고자 하였다.

두 번째 핵심 컨셉은 '탄탄한 내실'이었다. 2009년 완공 이후 원형 그대로 유지되던 공간을 클라이언트의 라이프스타일에 맞춰 재설계하였다. 겉으로는 단순하고 간결한 디자인을 유지하면서도, 내부에는 실용성을 고려한 맞춤 제작 가구를 배치하여 공간 활용도를 극대화하였다. 미인터내셔날이 추구하는 디자인 철학은 심플하지만, 그 안에 정교한 디테일이 숨겨져 있는 것이다.

 

현관은 집의 첫인상을 결정하는 공간으로, 기존에는 없던 통유리 자동 중문을 추가하여 프라이버시를 확보함과 동시에 방풍과 방음 기능을 강화하였다. 투명한 유리 소재의 자동문은 공간의 흐름을 자연스럽게 연결하며, 내부와 외부의 시각적 연속성을 제공한다. 신발장의 내부는 클라이언트의 생활 패턴을 반영하여 신발, 슈드레서, 골프백 등을 효율적으로 수납할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 또한 한쪽 수납장에는 전신 거울을 설치해 공간이 더욱 넓어 보이는 효과를 주었다.

거실과 주방은 뉴트럴 컬러를 기반으로 통일성을 유지하며, 장식 요소를 최소화한 대형 타일을 마감재로 사용하였다. 거실과 복도, 주방 바닥에는 은은한 결이 돋보이는 윤현상재의 포세린 타일을 적용하고, 벽면은 무광 빅슬랩 타일을 사용하여 차분하면서도 세련된 분위기를 연출하였다. 벽과 바닥의 타일은 서로 다른 모델이지만 조화롭게 어우러져 하나의 공간처럼 보이도록 구성하였다. 거실 아트월에는 뱅앤올룹슨 스피커를 배치하여, 웅장한 사운드가 타일 벽면을 타고 공간 전체를 감싸는 효과를 극대화하였다. 가구 또한 베이지 톤의 까사미아 소파와 보컨셉 테이블을 매치하여 전체적인 컬러와 소재를 고려하였다.

주방은 요리를 즐기는 클라이언트를 고려하여 대면형 아일랜드 주방으로 설계하였다. 맞춤 제작된 서랍 내부까지 세심하게 설계하여 실용성을 극대화하였으며, 이탈리아 하이엔드 브랜드 팔멕 후드를 설치해 무게감을 더했다. 상부장은 과감하게 배제하고, 하부 수납장과 긴 장을 배치하여 넉넉한 수납공간을 확보하였다. 아일랜드 상판은 오염과 내구성에 강한 이탈리아 세라믹을 적용하였으며, 거실 아트월과 동일한 빅슬랩 타일을 주방 벽면에도 연장하여 공간의 통일감을 강조하였다.

조명 디자인은 공간의 분위기를 결정짓는 중요한 요소로, 본 프로젝트에서는 레이아웃과 마감재만큼이나 세심하게 빛을 다루었다. 자연광이 풍부한 낮에는 외부 풍경이 공간의 아름다움을 부각시키고, 해가 진 저녁에는 정밀하게 설계된 조명이 공간 자체의 미학을 돋보이게 한다. 조명의 색온도와 광량은 면밀히 계산되었으며, 디밍 기능을 적용해 상황에 따라 조도를 조절할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 또한, 모든 도어는 히든 도어로 제작하여 벽면과 일체화되도록 하였으며, 문이 닫혔을 때는 마치 갤러리의 벽처럼 보이도록 디자인하였다. 이는 공간의 군더더기를 제거함과 동시에 간결하면서도 세련된 분위기를 유지하는 데 기여하였다.

안방은 부부가 편안한 휴식을 취할 수 있도록 아늑한 공간감이 강조된 디자인으로 완성하였다. 벽면에는 아트월 기능을 겸하는 수납장을 배치하여 오브제, TV, 액자 등을 자유롭게 배치할 수 있도록 설계하였으며, 바닥재는 따뜻한 질감의 오크 강마루를 적용하여 포근한 감성을 더하였다. 안방 욕실은 기존의 애매한 드레스룸 구조를 철거하고, 넓고 개방적인 메이크업 공간으로 재구성하였다. 이를 통해 수납공간을 3배 이상 확장하였으며, 욕실 타일의 마감 디테일을 극대화하기 위해 졸리컷 시공을 적용하고, 줄눈 색상까지 타일과 유사한 색감으로 맞추어 완성도를 높였다.

패션에 관심이 많은 클라이언트의 라이프스타일을 반영하여, 방 하나를 드레스룸으로 활용하였다. 늘어나는 짐에 대한 부담을 최소화할 수 있도록 맞춤형 수납 솔루션을 제공하였으며, 고밀도 합판에 우레탄 도장을 적용하여 간결한 오픈형 구조로 설계하였다. 빛이 잘 들지 않는 공간 특성을 고려하여, 가구 곳곳에 추가적인 간접 조명을 배치하여 밝고 쾌적한 환경을 조성하였다.

게스트룸은 기존의 작은 두 개의 방을 하나로 합쳐, 미니 거실과 침실이 결합된 독립적인 공간으로 재탄생하였다. 서재, 게스트룸, 아이 방 등 다방면으로 활용할 수 있도록 설계하였으며, 붙박이장은 단순한 수납 기능을 넘어 책상, 화장대, TV 선반 등 다양한 용도로 사용할 수 있도록 맞춤 제작되었다. 게스트룸 욕실은 답답하게 공간을 분리하던 벽을 철거하고, 유리 칸막이를 설치하여 공간을 더욱 넓고 개방적으로 사용할 수 있도록 개선하였다. 또한, 기존에 어색하게 위치했던 점검구는 천장 라인과 최대한 정렬하여 디자인적 완성도를 높였다.

이 프로젝트는 신혼부부가 함께 살아가며 공간을 유연하게 채워나갈 수 있도록, 실용성과 감각적 요소를 균형감 있게 담아낸 작업이었다. 빛과 재료, 음향, 색채가 유기적으로 조화를 이루는 이 공간은 단순한 주거 공간을 넘어, 부부의 삶을 담아가는 감성적인 배경이 될 것이다.

A young entrepreneurial newlywed couple chose a high-rise apartment in Songnae, Bucheon, completed in 2009, as their first home. With an expansive view of the mountains and an abundance of natural light, this space stood out as the ideal choice for their first residence.

​

The design concept for this project aimed to create a refined yet functional living environment that would allow the couple to gradually personalize their space over time. To achieve this, a restrained color palette and a meticulously curated design approach were adopted, ensuring a minimal yet substantial foundation.

​

The first key design principle was "simplicity." A neutral white tone with warm undertones was chosen as the main color, setting the foundation for a serene and inviting atmosphere. Complementary architectural finishes were selected to highlight the inherent beauty of the materials. Additionally, precisely calculated lighting arrangements were implemented to enhance the depth and richness of the space.

The second core concept was "structural integrity." Originally left in its unaltered state since its completion in 2009, the space was redesigned to cater to the clients’ lifestyle needs. While the exterior maintained a clean and streamlined aesthetic, the interior was thoughtfully fitted with custom-built furniture, designed to maximize functionality and optimize storage. The design philosophy of Mi International prioritizes simplicity with meticulous attention to hidden details that enhance usability and comfort.

The entrance, which sets the first impression of the home, was redefined with the installation of a full-glass automatic sliding door, adding privacy while also improving insulation and noise reduction. The transparent glass door seamlessly connects interior and exterior spaces, ensuring visual continuity. The shoe storage was customized to accommodate the clients’ needs, incorporating dedicated spaces for shoes, a shoe dresser, and golf bags. A full-length mirror was also integrated into one of the storage units, visually expanding the space.

The living room and kitchen were designed with a cohesive neutral palette, employing large-format tiles with minimal embellishment as the primary surface finish. The floors of the living room, hallway, and kitchen were clad in delicately textured porcelain tiles by Yoonhyun Sangjae, while matte-finish large slab tiles with understated stone patterns were used on the walls to establish a sophisticated yet understated ambiance. Though sourced from different collections, these wall and floor tiles were carefully coordinated to create a seamless and unified visual experience. A Bang & Olufsen speaker system was incorporated into the living room’s feature wall, amplifying sound resonance against the tile surface to enhance the auditory experience. Complementary furniture selections included a beige leather sofa by Casamia and a coffee table from BoConcept, carefully chosen for their color and material harmony.

In the kitchen, a front-facing island layout was adopted to accommodate the clients’ love for cooking. Every drawer within the island was custom-designed for optimal organization, ensuring efficiency in daily use. The space was further elevated with the installation of a premium range hood by Italian high-end brand Falmec, adding a sense of depth and presence. Upper cabinets were intentionally omitted, while lower cabinetry and tall units were incorporated to maximize storage capacity. The island countertop was fabricated from high-durability Italian ceramic, offering superior resistance to stains and wear. To enhance visual continuity, the large slab tiles used in the living room’s feature wall were extended to the kitchen backsplash, reinforcing a cohesive design language.

Lighting played a pivotal role in shaping the spatial experience. While abundant natural light accentuated the space’s openness during the day, a meticulously planned artificial lighting scheme highlighted the materiality and architectural details in the evening. The light temperature and intensity were precisely calculated, and dimming functionality was incorporated to allow adjustable brightness based on different needs and occasions.

All doors were designed as hidden doors, blending seamlessly with the walls to create a clean and uninterrupted visual flow. When closed, they contribute to a gallery-like aesthetic, further enhancing the minimalist appeal of the space.

The master bedroom was conceived as a tranquil retreat, prioritizing comfort and relaxation. A custom-built storage unit, which doubled as an art wall, was integrated into the space, allowing for flexible display of objects, televisions, and framed artworks. To introduce warmth, oak-engineered flooring was selected for the bedroom, softening the overall atmosphere with its natural texture. The master bathroom underwent a significant transformation, removing an inefficient closet space to create a spacious and open vanity area. This renovation tripled the available storage while ensuring a seamless, clutter-free environment. To achieve a refined finish, Jolly-cut tiling techniques were employed, and grout colors were meticulously matched using Kerakoll Fugabella elastic grout for a harmonious look.

Reflecting the clients’ keen interest in fashion, one of the bedrooms was converted into a walk-in dressing room. To accommodate their growing wardrobe, a tailored storage solution was developed, integrating high-density plywood with a refined urethane coating for a clean and structured open wardrobe system. Given the limited natural light in this space, additional built-in lighting was installed throughout the cabinetry to maintain a bright and functional atmosphere.

The guest room was reimagined by merging two smaller rooms into one, creating a multifunctional space that could serve as a mini lounge and a bedroom. Designed for versatility, the space can be adapted as a study, guest accommodation, or a future child’s room. The built-in wardrobes were designed to function beyond simple storage, integrating a desk, vanity, and TV shelving for a fully optimized layout.

To enhance the sense of spaciousness in the guest bathroom, an obstructive wall between the shower and toilet area was removed and replaced with a sleek glass partition. Even practical details such as the maintenance access panel were carefully considered, aligning with the ceiling’s linear design for a refined finish.

This project was an exercise in balancing simplicity with depth, delivering a living space that appears effortlessly elegant yet offers highly considered functionality. By thoughtfully orchestrating light, materiality, sound, and color, this home provides a rich and immersive environment where the newlywed couple can grow and shape their future together.
