본 프로젝트는 ‘꿈’이 예술 속에서 얽히고설키며 끝없는 상상과 현실을 인간에게 제시한다는 개념에서 출발한 전시 디자인 작업이다. 비현실적인 기묘한 세계에서부터 사람들이 추구하는 삶의 목표까지, 꿈의 스펙트럼은 무한히 광활하고 다채롭다. 예술은 곧 꿈이며, 꿈은 예술이다. 그러나 2020년, 코로나19라는 미지의 역병이 전 세계를 뒤덮으며 인간 간의 온기가 사라지고 단절된 세상 속에서 ‘꿈’은 어떤 의미를 가지는가?

본 전시는 한국 동시대 미술계에서 활발히 활동 중인 13인의 작가 김홍주, 로와정, 뮌, 심아빈, 왕선정, 이동욱, 임현정, 정연두, 조재영, 최기창, 최은혜, 홍범과 함께 ‘꿈의 대화(Dream Believer)’를 통해 그들의 작품 속에 녹아든 꿈의 해석을 탐색한다. 작가들은 꿈을 각자의 감각적 언어로 표현하며, 이를 통해 관람객들은 단절된 일상 속에서도 예술을 매개로 새로운 방식의 소통을 경험하게 된다.

이번 전시는 ‘대화’라는 키워드에 집중한다. 대화는 단순한 언어적 교환이 아니라, 상대와 깊이 공감하는 데서 시작된다. 이에 따라, 전시는 작가 개개인의 이야기를 흡수하고 자신만의 새로운 관점을 발견해나가는 ‘과정’을 다양한 감각적 언어로 풀어내었으며, 이는 사회적 격리와 단절 속에서 지친 관람객들에게 신선한 감각과 설렘을 선사하는 특별한 경험이 된다.

본 전시는 단순한 감상의 공간이 아니라, ‘꿈’이라는 세계를 여유롭게 거닐며 몰입하는 과정 자체를 의미한다. 이를 통해 우리는 소통의 단절이 절대적인 것이 아니라, 단지 그 방식이 변화했음을 깨닫게 된다. 또한, 작품과의 교감을 통해 점차 심리적 거리감을 허물고 작가의 언어에 더욱 깊이 공감하게 된다. 이것이 본 전시의 핵심 주제, ‘꿈의 대화(Dream Believer)’이다.

공간 디자인 역시 이러한 대화의 개념을 강화하는 방향으로 이루어졌다. 비교적 협소한 전시 공간을 보다 자연스럽고 일상적인 분위기의 공간으로 재구성하였으며, 낮과 밤이라는 두 가지 테마를 중심으로 아늑한 집과 같은 환경을 조성하여 관람객들이 익숙하고 편안한 분위기 속에서 작품과 교감할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, ‘대화’라는 주제와의 유기적 연결성을 유지하기 위해 장식을 최소화하고, 따뜻한 톤의 가구와 패브릭을 적극 활용하여 안락하고 친근한 공간을 연출하였다.

본 전시는 꿈과 현실, 소통과 단절의 경계를 허물며, 꿈을 통해 연결된 새로운 감각적 경험을 제시한다. 상상과 현실이 혼재하는 이 공간 속에서, 관람객들은 자신만의 꿈을 발견하고 예술과의 대화를 이어나가게 될 것이다.

This project is an exhibition design initiative that explores the concept of dreams as an intricate interplay between art, boundless imagination, and reality. From surreal, enigmatic realms to the aspirations that define human existence, the spectrum of dreams is vast and multifaceted. Art is a dream, and dreams are art. However, in 2020, as the unprecedented global pandemic of COVID-19 severed human connections and isolated societies, the question arises—what meaning do dreams hold in a world devoid of warmth?

This exhibition, Dream Believer, is a collaboration with 13 contemporary Korean artists—Kim Hong-ju, Rho Jae-jung, MOON, Sim A-bin, Wang Sun-jung, Lee Dong-wook, Lim Hyun-jung, Jung Yeon-doo, Jo Jae-young, Choi Ki-chang, Choi Eun-hye, and Hong Bum. Through their diverse artistic interpretations, the exhibition delves into the symbolic essence of dreams. Expressed through each artist’s unique sensory language, the exhibition offers audiences a new form of communication, one that transcends physical distance and speaks through the medium of art.

The central theme of this exhibition is “dialogue.” Dialogue is not merely an exchange of words but rather a profound act of empathy and shared understanding. Thus, the exhibition presents a process—one that invites visitors to absorb the narratives of individual artists and discover their own perspectives through diverse sensory expressions. This immersive approach provides a refreshing and emotionally resonant experience, particularly for those weary of prolonged isolation and disconnection.

This exhibition is not simply a collection of artworks but an experiential journey through the world of dreams. It demonstrates that disconnection is not absolute but rather an evolution of the way we communicate. As visitors engage with the artworks, they gradually dismantle psychological barriers and develop a deeper resonance with the artists’ expressions. This concept forms the core essence of Dream Believer.

The spatial design further enhances the thematic dialogue. The relatively compact exhibition space was reimagined into a familiar, everyday setting, structured around two thematic atmospheres—day and night. By adopting the intimacy of a home-like environment, visitors are encouraged to interact with the works in a setting that feels both natural and comfortable. To maintain coherence with the theme of dialogue, decorative elements were minimized, while warm-toned furniture and textiles were incorporated to create an inviting and immersive space.
 

By dissolving the boundaries between dreams and reality, connection and isolation, this exhibition offers a new sensory experience that unites visitors through the shared language of dreams. Within this space where imagination and reality coexist, audiences are invited to embark on a journey of self-discovery and artistic conversation, exploring their own dreams through the lens of contemporary art.
