본 프로젝트는 삼성 창업 지원센터(성우회)의 인테리어 작업으로, 직장 생활을 마무리한 삼성전자 퇴직자들이 편안하고 의미 있는 시간을 보낼 수 있도록 조성된 공간이다. 이곳은 교육과 놀이를 비롯한 다양한 프로그램이 마련된 커뮤니티 공간으로, 유사한 경험을 가진 이들과 자유롭게 소통하며 남은 시간을 활기차고 가치 있게 보낼 수 있도록 설계되었다.

주 사용자인 시니어들이 가장 쾌적하고 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 디자인에 많은 고민이 더해졌으며, 공간의 기본 방향성은 ‘평범함, 친숙함, 안전함’ 이라는 세 가지 원칙을 중심으로 설정되었다. 우선, 시니어들이 심리적으로 안정감을 느낄 수 있도록 따뜻하고 밝은 분위기를 연출하는 것이 필수적이었다. 이를 위해 전체 벽면과 수납 가구에는 난색 계열의 무늬목을 적용하여 따뜻한 기운이 공간 전체에 자연스럽게 확산될 수 있도록 하였다. 이러한 색채적 선택은 백색광이 비추더라도 공간이 지나치게 차갑거나 무미건조하게 보이지 않도록 하는 효과를 갖는다.

공간 내 안전성 확보도 중요한 요소였다. 바닥 마감재의 경우, 기존의 일반 타일은 시간이 지나면서 매지 틈이 벌어지거나 밀리는 현상이 발생할 수 있어 넘어짐 사고의 위험이 존재했다. 이에 따라, 보다 안전하고 유지보수가 용이한 롤 타일을 시공하여, 시니어들이 걸을 때 불편함이 없도록 하였으며 관리 또한 쉽게 이루어질 수 있도록 배려하였다.

가구 디자인에도 세심한 고민이 반영되었다. 기성 제품을 사용하되, 시니어들의 인지 능력 저하를 고려하여 색상을 신중하게 선정하였다. 예를 들어, 의자는 사용자가 확실히 인지하고 착석할 수 있도록 짙은 붉은 계열의 색상으로 제작되었으며, 삼성전자 현직 직원들이 사용하는 사무 공간에는 짙은 초록색의 포인트 파티션을 배치하여 가시성을 높였다.

이 공간은 단순히 여가 시간을 보내는 장소를 넘어, 오랜 세월 동안 쌓아온 추억을 공유하고 새로운 관계를 형성하며 활력 있는 일상을 영위할 수 있는 곳이 되기를 목표로 하였다. 이를 위해 친근하고 편안한 분위기의 공간을 제공함으로써, 사용자들이 심리적으로 안정감을 느끼며 자율적으로 공간을 활용할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 세심한 배려로 조성된 이 공간이, 새로운 경험을 쌓고 의미 있는 순간들을 나누는 장소로 자리 잡길 바란다.

 

This project involved the interior design of the Samsung Startup Support Center (Seongwoohoe), a dedicated space for senior retirees of Samsung Electronics, providing them with an environment where they can spend their time meaningfully and comfortably. Designed as a community hub, the center offers a variety of educational and recreational programs, enabling individuals with similar life experiences to engage freely in communication, fostering a vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle.

With the primary users being senior retirees, the design process was meticulously planned to ensure maximum comfort, convenience, and accessibility. The overall concept was structured around three core principles: simplicity, familiarity, and safety. One of the most critical design considerations was creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where seniors could feel psychologically at ease. To achieve this, warm-toned wood veneer was applied to the walls and storage furniture, allowing the space to naturally radiate warmth and comfort. This color choice ensured that even under white lighting, the environment would not feel overly sterile or impersonal.

Safety was another key aspect of the design. Traditional tile flooring was avoided due to the risk of shifting grout lines and potential tripping hazards over time. Instead, roll tiles were installed, providing a seamless walking surface that minimized discomfort and improved long-term maintenance efficiency.

Furniture selection was approached with great care. While standard off-the-shelf pieces were used, color choices were meticulously made with seniors in mind. Chairs were upholstered in deep red tones to enhance visibility and facilitate easy recognition for users. Similarly, partitions in the workspace used by current Samsung employees were accented with deep green hues to improve visual clarity and create a distinct, recognizable separation.

More than just a recreational space, this center was envisioned as a place where seniors could reconnect, share memories, and create new experiences in a supportive and engaging environment. By crafting a space that is welcoming, functional, and thoughtfully designed, the project aimed to provide a setting that fosters both emotional well-being and social interaction. Every element, from color selection to material choices, was carefully considered to ensure that the space not only meets the functional needs of its users but also enhances their overall quality of life. Through this meticulous approach, the Samsung Startup Support Center aspires to be a haven where retirees can continue to lead meaningful, enriching lives filled with connection and joy.
