본 프로젝트는 문화역 서울 284를 보다 친밀한 소통의 공간으로 만들기 위해 기획된 융복합 예술 전시로, 8개국 24개 팀, 70여 명의 작가가 참여한 대규모 문화예술 행사이다.

‘평범한 사람들의 영웅적 삶’을 주제로, 오늘날 진정한 영웅이란 무엇인가에 대한 이야기를 전시, 공연, 영화 등 다양한 프로그램으로 엮어 구성되었다. 중앙홀을 시작으로 각 공간을 따라 역사적 인물의 재해석과 영웅적 면모에 대한 다양한 시선을 담은 작품들이 전시되며, 관객 참여형 프로그램과 공연을 유기적으로 배치하여 보다 입체적인 경험을 선사한다.

첫 번째 테마 <누가 영웅을 말하는가>에서는 역사 속 영웅이 탄생한 조건과 평가 기준을 재해석한다. 익숙한 영웅들의 초상이 서울역의 여러 공간에 배치되어 있으며, 관람객은 이를 감상하며 작가의 시선과 해석을 통해 자신만의 영웅관을 확장할 수 있다.

두 번째 테마 <우리들의 작고도 큰 영웅>은 시간의 흐름 속에서 점점 초라해지는 영웅들의 모습을 담아낸다. 이 섹션은 전시의 하이라이트로, 작품의 프레임과 디스플레이 방식까지 세심하게 선정하여 영웅의 의미가 점점 퇴색해가는 과정을 극적으로 표현하였다. 이러한 변색된 영웅들의 모습과 고풍스러운 서울역 건물의 대비는 더욱 강렬한 감정을 불러일으킨다.

마지막 테마 <저기 태양이 온다>는 관람객이 주체가 되어 진정한 영웅이란 무엇인지 스스로 고민할 수 있는 체험형 공간이다. 앞서 경험한 작품과 이야기를 바탕으로, 기억하고 싶은 영웅을 재구성하거나 잊고 싶은 기억을 버리는 등의 참여형 활동을 통해 각자가 영웅에 대한 자신만의 정의를 내릴 수 있도록 유도한다.

전시의 전체적인 구성은 문화역 서울 284를 따라 이동하며 감상하도록 설계되어 있으며, 마지막에는 관람의 시작점으로 다시 돌아오게 된다. 이는 시간이 순환하는 것에서 벗어날 수 없는 우리의 존재를 예술적으로 해석한 것으로, 결국 관람객 스스로가 전시의 일부가 되어 ‘영웅’이라는 개념을 완성하는 과정을 경험하도록 의도되었다.

PART 01. 누가 영웅을 말하는가 Who Made a Hero

첫 번째 테마 <누가 영웅을 말하는가>에서는 역사적 인물들이 영웅으로 추앙받게 된 조건과 평가의 기준을 되짚으며, 그들의 의미를 되새긴다. 영웅이란 어떤 존재이며, 시대와 사회는 그들을 어떻게 기억하는가에 대한 해석을 탐구한다.

PART 02. 우리들의 작고도 큰 영웅 My Little Big Hero

두 번째 테마 <우리들의 작고도 큰 영웅>은 영원할 것 같았던 영웅들이 시간이 흐름에 따라 점차 희미해지고, 그 의미가 변화하는 과정을 담아낸다. 우리가 기억하는 영웅이란 무엇이며, 그들의 존재는 어떻게 우리 삶 속에서 자리 잡고 있는지를 돌아보는 시간이다.

PART 03. 저기 태양이 온다 Here Comes the Sun

마지막 테마 <저기 태양이 온다>에서는 평범한 사람들에게 있어 진정한 영웅의 의미는 무엇인지, 그리고 우리 각자가 지켜가야 할 중요한 가치가 무엇인지에 대해 성찰하는 기회를 제공한다. 시대의 흐름 속에서 변화하는 영웅의 개념을 탐구하며, 오늘날 우리가 바라보는 ‘영웅’의 새로운 의미를 모색한다.

This project at Culture Station Seoul 284 is a multidisciplinary art exhibition designed to transform the historic venue into an intimate space for dialogue. Featuring 70 artists from 24 teams across 8 countries, this large-scale cultural event explores the theme "The Heroic Lives of Ordinary People," weaving together exhibitions, performances, and films to redefine what it means to be a hero in today’s world. Beginning at the central hall and extending through multiple spaces, the exhibition reinterprets historical figures and examines their heroic qualities through a rich array of artworks. The integration of interactive programs and performances enhances the overall experience, making it more immersive and engaging for visitors.

The first theme, "Who Made a Hero?", reexamines the conditions and criteria that have historically defined individuals as heroes. Portraits of well-known figures are strategically placed throughout Seoul Station, allowing visitors to engage with the artists’ perspectives and broaden their own understanding of heroism.

The second theme, "My Little Big Heroes," captures the fading legacy of once-revered figures as time erodes their place in history. As the highlight of the exhibition, this section carefully curates each frame and display to illustrate how even the greatest heroes lose their impact over time. The contrast between these diminished figures and the grand architecture of Seoul Station further emphasizes the ephemeral nature of heroism, creating a powerful visual and emotional impact.

The final theme, "Here Comes the Sun," invites visitors to become active participants in the exhibition, reflecting on what true heroism means to them. Through interactive installations, visitors can engage in activities such as discarding memories they wish to forget or cultivating meaningful ones into a metaphorical garden, ultimately shaping their own interpretation of heroism.

The exhibition is designed as a journey through Culture Station Seoul 284, culminating in a return to the original starting point. This cyclical structure serves as an artistic representation of humanity’s inescapable relationship with time. As visitors retrace their steps, they become an integral part of the exhibition, actively contributing to the evolving narrative of heroism and making the experience deeply personal and thought-provoking.
