본 프로젝트는 32평형(약 106㎡) 아파트를 리모델링한 주거 공간 프로젝트로, 실용성과 편안함을 최우선으로 고려한 미니멀한 인테리어로 설계되었다. 비교적 높은 연령대의 클라이언트를 위한 공간으로, 꼭 필요한 요소들만 채워 삶의 질을 향상시키고 불필요한 장식을 배제하여 단순하면서도 세련된 공간을 조성하였다.

현관은 기존에 비효율적으로 남아 있던 여유 공간과 애매한 위치에 자리했던 중문을 철거하고, 좌우측으로 맞춤 제작된 신발장을 배치하여 한층 정돈된 모습으로 정리되었다. 또한, 3단 화이트 프레임 중문을 새롭게 설치하여 좁은 현관에서도 효율적인 개폐가 가능하도록 하였다.​ 

 

거실은 탁 트인 창 너머로 햇살을 가득 머금은 언덕 전망이 펼쳐지는 공간으로, 클라이언트가 이 집을 선택한 가장 큰 이유 중 하나였다. 이 특별한 전망을 강조하기 위해 기존의 딥 브라운 창틀을 그대로 유지하고 창을 하나의 액자처럼 연출하였다. 공간 색상은 뉴트럴한 화이트 톤을 중심으로 따뜻한 난색 계열의 마루와 조화를 이루도록 하여, 부드럽고 안정적인 분위기를 자아냈다.

클라이언트가 집에서 많은 시간을 보내는 점을 고려하여, 거실의 아트월은 TV 시청 시 강한 햇빛 반사로 인한 눈의 피로를 줄이기 위해 톤 다운된 뉴트럴 컬러 패널을 적용하였다. 이러한 요소들이 어우러져 공간이 차분하면서도 온화한 에너지를 발산하며, 우물 천장에 추가 설치된 조명은 낮과 밤에 따라 공간의 분위기를 더욱 풍부하게 연출한다.

거실과 안방 욕실은 자연스러운 돌 무늬 패턴이 가미된 난색 계열의 타일을 사용하여 따뜻한 기운을 유지하면서도 세련된 마감을 완성하였다. 세면대 맞은편에는 맞춤 제작된 옷장을 배치하여 수납력을 극대화하였으며, 공간과 자연스럽게 어우러지는 화이트 인테리어 필름을 적용하였다. 원목의 결을 살린 디자인의 필름은 벽면과 조화롭게 매칭되며, 세로 결로 통일하여 더욱 깔끔하고 고급스러운 느낌을 강조하였다.

클라이언트의 요리를 즐기는 성향을 반영하여, 주방에는 두 개의 냉장고장을 설치하고 최대한의 수납공간을 확보하였다. 기본적인 상·하부장 외에도 다목적 수납공간을 추가 배치하여 동선의 효율성을 극대화하였다. 또한, 식탁 뒤편에는 양방향 수납이 가능한 맞춤 제작 가구를 추가하여, 주방과 다이닝 공간을 자연스럽게 분리하면서도 개방감을 유지하도록 설계하였다. 작은 공간에서도 답답함을 피할 수 있도록 배려하였으며, 식사 중에도 창밖 전망을 감상할 수 있는 구조로 연출하였다.

안방은 하루의 피로를 온전히 풀 수 있도록 불필요한 장식을 배제한 휴식 공간으로 구성되었다. 최소한의 가구 배치로 간결하면서도 기능적인 설계를 강조하였으며, 벽면에는 심플한 붙박이장을 배치하여 실용성을 높였다. 창 너머 펼쳐지는 자연의 풍경이 온전히 시야에 담길 수 있도록 하여, 공간이 주는 편안함과 힐링 요소를 극대화하였다.

이처럼 본 프로젝트는 최소한의 디자인 요소로 가장 효율적인 공간 활용을 실현하며, 단순하지만 깊이 있는 공간 경험을 제공하는 데 중점을 두었다. 클라이언트의 라이프스타일과 공간의 본질적인 가치를 고려한 설계를 통해, 실용적이면서도 감각적인 주거 공간을 완성하였다.

This project involved the remodeling of a 32-pyeong (approximately 106㎡) apartment into a minimalist residence, emphasizing practicality, comfort, and refined simplicity. Designed with an older client in mind, the space was thoughtfully curated to include only essential elements, enhancing functionality while eliminating unnecessary embellishments for a sleek and harmonious living environment.

At the entrance, underutilized space and an awkwardly positioned partition door were removed to streamline the area. Custom-built shoe cabinets were installed on both sides, optimizing storage while maintaining a clean and organized aesthetic. A newly added three-panel white-framed sliding door enhanced accessibility and improved spatial efficiency within the compact entryway.

The living room is defined by a panoramic window that frames a sunlit hillside, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. To accentuate this scenic view, the original deep brown window frames were preserved, transforming the window into a natural picture frame. A neutral white palette was selected to complement the warm-toned wood flooring, striking a perfect balance between softness and structure.

Given that the client spends significant time at home, the feature wall opposite the sofa was designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind. To minimize glare and reduce eye strain during TV viewing, light-absorbing neutral-toned panels were selected. This cohesive integration of neutral flooring, walls, and feature elements enhances the room’s warmth, further amplified by coffered ceiling lighting that adapts to different times of day, seamlessly transitioning between natural daylight and ambient illumination.

The bathrooms in both the living and master bedrooms were finished with warm-toned tiles featuring natural stone patterns, evoking an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere. A custom wardrobe was installed opposite the sink to maximize storage, finished with white interior film that mimics natural wood grain, carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the apartment’s overall aesthetic. The vertical grain alignment was meticulously maintained to ensure a polished, high-end look.

To accommodate the client’s passion for cooking, the kitchen was custom-designed with two dedicated refrigerator cabinets and ample storage solutions. In addition to the standard upper and lower cabinetry, additional multifunctional storage compartments were incorporated to optimize organization. Behind the dining table, a dual-sided custom-built unit was added, serving as both a functional storage solution and a subtle partition between the kitchen and dining area. Designed to preserve an open layout, this configuration allows for an unobstructed dining experience while enjoying scenic views.

The master bedroom was designed as a tranquil retreat, prioritizing relaxation and simplicity. Unnecessary decorative elements were deliberately omitted, with only a built-in wardrobe installed to maintain a clean and uncluttered aesthetic. The unobstructed window view enhances the sense of spaciousness, offering the client daily moments of quiet rejuvenation.

This project exemplifies the power of minimalism in achieving an efficient yet deeply meaningful living environment. By prioritizing spatial efficiency, carefully curated materials, and a thoughtful approach to the client’s lifestyle, the design seamlessly integrates function and aesthetics, resulting in a home that is as practical as it is visually compelling.
